What cDVR architecture types are there?

There are two types of cDVR architecture types:

– Object Store cDVR
– Software Defined Storage cDVR

The object store data planes were typically built for IT applications and data storage like emails, documents etc which have been repurposed for video. However it creates complexity, integration challenges, latency as well as increased network traffic.

The SDS based cDVR solutions are specifically designed for video which unlike documents are sequential in nature which enables SDS storage to reduce latency by pre-fetching video. It runs on COTS hardware and acts as a load balancer to reduce the number of servers and improves utilization.

MediaKind pioneered SDS based cDVR solutions by launching the first system in 2011 with our VSPP solution and was ranked #1 with over 70 worldwide deployments.
